Happy Wife, Happy Life: Commit to Control PE

Sexual intimacy is a personal matter that couples need to be more open with their partners about what satisfies them. Given that the two of you share a special bond, there's no reason for you to not be comfortable about discussing what you like - and don't like about sex. After all, an activity that is meant to be enjoyed, should provide fulfillment for both parties.

As such, Menarini Philippines together with the Philippine Urological Association, boldly launched its Commit to Control PE Advocacy campaign last year to address one of the more pressing issues regarding sexual intimacy - premature ejaculation. The campaign is meant to make couples more comfortable about discussing their intimacy concerns with each other, without it being a cause of insecurity or dissatisfaction. This is because premature ejaculation can gravely affect one's relationship when left undiscussed - and untreated.

Recently, I was invited in Happy Wife, Happy Life Event, which was held at the Satin Room of the Seda Hotels in BGC. It aimed to shed better insight about what premature ejaculation is all about, and that it is not something to be embarrassed about because it can be controlled. The event was hosted by popular celebrity columnist RJ Ledesmaand featured a very insightful talk from sex and relationship guru, Dr. Margie Holmes, concerning "the love that last is better". Also present at the event was Dr. Dennis Serrano, who talked about the “basics” of premature ejaculation to help the guests have a better understanding of this condition.

What is premature ejaculation?

Premature ejaculation is when a man ejaculates with little sexual stimulation and before the man wishes. This can lead to a decrease in sexual satisfaction and quality of life for men and their partners. Premature ejaculation can take two forms. Men can have premature ejaculation from the first time they have sex (lifelong), or develop premature ejaculation later in life, even after many years of normal ejaculatory experience  (acquired).

Is there any difference between “normal” ejaculation and premature ejaculation?

In men with premature ejaculation, the mechanism of ejaculation is the same as in men without premature ejaculation, but it happens with a diminished sense of control. Otherwise, ejaculation for a man with premature ejaculation is the same for a man without premature ejaculation. Normal ejaculation is a reflex action controlled by the brain and the nervous system. Men with premature ejaculation have compared their inability to control ejaculation to a sneeze. Think about sneezing as another reflex and how hard it is to control. In some ways, premature ejaculation is the same – men can feel that it is about to happen but they cannot do anything to stop it. This is because, like a sneeze, ejaculation is a reflex action that is controlled by the brain and nervous system. Once triggered, it can’t be stopped.

Is there a treatment for premature ejaculation?

Dapoxetine is said to be the first and only drug specifically developed for the treatment of premature ejaculation. For more information on premature ejaculation, please refer to www.controlPE.ph

What is the side effects may be associated with Dapoxetine?

Based on robust trials involving over 16,000 men worldwide, Dapoxetine is proven to be well-tolerated. Side effects due to dapoxetine are usually mild to moderate and are more frequent in the first week of treatment. Such side effects includes nausea, dizziness and headache.

Menarini Philippines strongly believes in this advocacy which is often left untreated because it is a topic that is usually considered taboo even in these modern times. The pharmaceutical giant hopes to make a stronger impact among Filipino couples on their campaign this year with more events like this.
